A new doily, learning to read written instructions

Howdy there, I know I barely come here and it is because I have a lot going on and just haven't had the time.  But here I'am.  I have been trying to teach myself to learn and understand written instruction.    So I started this sweet doily which looked simple enough by looking at it.  It is always a challenge even if I do it by eye.  Because I don't never know what needle sized they used. 

So here is my doily from a book I have had for years...

     The beginning was pretty simple that part was written instructions.

     All this was easy...

     But after this it went to diagram only which I thought was crazy why didn't they keep it at both.  Because between the two I might had figured the next steps out easier.  Gosh I took it out like five times UGH...  but after trail and tribulation I got it I think lol well it looks good so far...

  

     It looks simple as pie, but boy I struggled with it, but I believe I got it right now...  So far so good.  Determination !!!  I still have quite a bit more to do..  So I will be back later with the results...  

             I'm also working on this one as well.  But this I'm doing by eye from a photo, so far so good too...

     I'm thus far now making pineapples for the second time.  The difference being I'm making multiples and the first was one large one...  Fun..
